''The Different Scientist and their Atomic Contributions''

Ernest Rutherford, a New Zealander, designed an experiment to study how alpha particles with a 2+ charge, interact with a piece of a very thin gold foil. In his experiment, he found out that most of the alpha particles passed straight through the foil. This proves that most of the atom is empty space. But, a few of the alpha particles bounced back and some of it were deflected. This means that the center of the atom or so called nucleus is positively charged. That is why, it reppeled the alpha particles backward.
He concluded that an atom was made up of a very dense, positively charged nucleus where the electrons could be found in an empty space primarily sorrounding the nucleus.
Niels Bohr is a Danish Physicist who made a significant contribution to the rapidly growing knowledge of the atomic structure. He was led to believe that electrons in an atom comes out in a specific region and at various distances when he studied the line spectra of hydrogen.
He explained that a number of orbits are available where each orbit is together with its different energy levels. The orbit closest to the nucleus is the lowest or ground state, while orbits at increasing distances are the second, third and etc. energy levels
However, even if explained his own atomic model and a great number of facts known, his method of calculation did not succeed for heavier atoms.
In 1897, J.J. Thomson discovered thye electron. It is a weightless particle, negatively charged. He also proposed a model of the atom that is often refferd to as plum pudding model. Plum pudding model is a well-known English dessert. Thomson's model explained taht the atoms were composed primarily of a very massive, positively charged blob. In this blob embedded with a negatively charged electrons.
Thomson also used the cathode-ray tube that in an electric field, a beam of cathode ray bends toward the positively charged plate. He found out that electrons are composing the cathode ray which is also negatively charged.
I agreed to Ernest Rutherford's experiment. It is because in his experiment, he really proved that the nucleus is positively charged because it reppeled the alpha particles backward. He also proved that most of the atoms were empty spaced. It is because most of the alpha particles just passed straight through the thin gold foil.
He (Rutherford) came to this conclusion following the results of his famous gold foil experiment. This experiment involved the firing of radioactive particles through minutely thin metal foils (notably gold) and detecting them using screens coated with zinc sulfide (a scintillator). He found that although the vast majority of particles passed straight through the foil approximately 1 in 8000 were deflected leading him to his theory that most of the atom was made up of 'empty space'. That is the reason why I agreed to his atomic theory.
